Adventure Challenge
LIFE at RCIL’s Summer Adventure Challenge Program offers a week of exciting exploration and adventures for students with all types of disabilities. From farms and museums to libraries and zoos, students will get to discover local attractions while enhancing their storytelling skills.
LIFE at RCIL’s Summer Adventure Challenge Program is a one-week, theme-based learning adventure for students with state disabilities. Students will explore local cultural, recreational, and educational attractions while developing storytelling and writing skills through a personal journal project. The program is free for eligible families in Oneida and Herkimer counties, with transportation available for families who reside within a 25-mile radius.
This program is funded through family support dollars and are designated for individuals who have a letter of eligibility from OPWDD.
Program Features
LIFE at RCIL offers fun under the sun and includes:
- Exploration of museums, bowling alleys, forts, zoos, libraries, farms and more!
- Personal journal project to develop storytelling and writing skills.
- A chance for students to learn and grow in a fun, supportive environment.
- Transportation for eligible families within a 25-mile radius, if needed
Who We Serve
- In-school youth between the ages of 12-21
- Letter of eligibility from OPWDD
- The service must be listed in the most recent Life Plan, if connected to a Care Coordination Organization (CCO)

Payment Options
- If enrolled in Self-Direction (SD), the cost of the service must be included in their SD Budget. If not, the service is free.

Are you searching for a recreation program for your OPWDD eligible child?
LIFE at RCIL offers a one-week theme-based learning adventure for in school youth (ages 12-21) in the summer.
When is the Adventure Challenge program offered?
This program typically is held right after the school year ends and before summer school and/or summer youth employment programs begin.
Does the family have access to transportation for the program?
If the family does not have transportation to the program, we can provide transportation within a 25 mile radius from the program site.
