Adventure Challenge
RCIL’s Summer Adventure Program offers a week of exciting exploration and adventures for students with all types of disabilities. From farms and museums to libraries and zoos, students will get to discover local attractions while enhancing their storytelling skills.
RCIL’s Summer Adventure Program is a one-week, theme-based learning adventure for students with state disabilities. Students will explore local cultural, recreational, and educational attractions while developing storytelling and writing skills through a personal journal project. The program is free for eligible families in Oneida and Herkimer counties, with transportation available for families who reside within a 25-mile radius.
Program Features
RCIL offers fun under the sun for everyone. Program features include:
- Exploration of museums, bowling alleys, forts, zoos, libraries, farms and more!
- Learn new skills, like cooking and photography.
- Free for families with a letter of eligibility from OPWDD.
- Personal journal project to develop storytelling and writing skills.
- Transportation for eligible families within a 25-mile radius, if needed.
- Funded through family support dollars for OPWDD-eligible students.
- A chance for students to learn and grow in a fun, supportive environment.

Payment Options
- If enrolled in Self-Direction (SD), the cost of the service must be included in their SD Budget. If not, the service is free.

Are you searching for a recreation program for your OPWDD eligible child?
LIFE at RCIL offers a one-week theme-based learning adventure for in school youth (ages 12-21) in the summer.
When is the Adventure Challenge program offered?
This program typically is held right after the school year ends and before summer school and/or summer youth employment programs begin.
Does the family have access to transportation for the program?
If the family does not have transportation to the program, we can provide transportation within a 25 mile radius from the program site.
