RCIL’s Independent Living Support program supports individuals in achieving independence by helping them secure public benefits and navigate through community services. Plus, ICAN, a New York State Ombud program, offers guidance with long-term care and behavioral health services, while RCIL’s Public Health Worker offers health-related information through bi-monthly presentations.

Program Features

Learn how RCIL can assist you in your journey toward greater independence.

  • Help with accessing public benefits (SNAP, Medicaid, Social Security), housing applications, home modifications, and community support services that encourage independence.
  • Learn important skills like using public transportation, grocery shopping, bill payments, and scheduling appointments.
  • Advocates tailor services to each person’s goals, making sure that individual rights are respected and protected.
  • Information and Referral (I&R) offers assistance in finding information and connecting with community resources.
  • ICAN supports individuals with Medicaid Long Term Care Plan (MLTC) enrollment, the application process, and appeals for long-term care or behavioral health services.
  • Public Health Worker hosts twice-monthly presentations on health and lifestyle topics like healthy eating, managing winter blues, and using technology for everyday life, available at the center or within the community.
  • Advocates work with anyone with any type of disability, including a disability perceived by the person requesting the service. There is no need to provide documentation of any medical condition or disability.
  • Independent Consumer Advocacy Network (ICAN) eligibility: Must have Medicaid and be eligible for a Medicaid Long Term Care Plan.
  • Public Health Worker eligibility: Open to anyone.
