  2. RCIL PROFILE: Lisa Mastracco

Growing up on the Quebec border in New York State, Lisa was the oldest of five siblings. Her early years were spent in a family-oriented environment, and she would go on to live in several parts of the country before ultimately returning to New York in the early 1990s.

At RCIL, Lisa’s commitment to equal access for all is what initially drew her to the organization. “The mission — the idea that everyone deserves equal access — really resonated with me,” she says. As Director of Independent Living Services, she works tirelessly to develop systems and staff that provide the best possible service to the community. Lisa finds great joy in helping her team grow, ensuring they have the tools and support to reach their full potential. “I enjoy developing staff and systems that help my department provide the best service to as many people as possible,” she notes.

One of Lisa’s proudest professional accomplishments is the creation of efficient teams that share her passion for the mission of RCIL. By fostering a collaborative environment and helping her team thrive, Lisa has played a pivotal role in the organization’s success. However, it hasn't always been easy. Like many in her field, she has faced challenges, particularly the staffing shortages that followed the pandemic. Despite this, Lisa remains focused on the work and dedicated to overcoming these obstacles, ensuring that RCIL continues to serve its community effectively.

The mission of RCIL is more than just words for Lisa; it's a deeply personal cause. “Everyone deserves equal access and to live the life they choose,” she says. This core belief drives her work every day, making her a natural leader in her role.

Outside of her professional life, Lisa enjoys spending time with her family, immersing herself in nature, attending live music events, reading, and gardening. Balancing work and personal life is important to her, and while it can be a challenge, Lisa has learned the importance of knowing her limits. “If I burn myself out, I’m not effective at work or at home,” she reflects. She works hard during her time at RCIL, but she also recognizes the need to recharge and separate work from personal time to maintain a healthy balance.

Lisa’s dedication to the mission of RCIL and her ability to develop both herself and her team make her an invaluable part of the organization. Her passion for helping others and fostering an environment of growth and accessibility truly embody the spirit of RCIL.
