Statewide Systems Advocacy Network Coordinator (SSAN Coordinator)

Job Duties
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Coordinate and facilitate system-wide advocacy efforts, with RCIL staff, in coordination with RCIL’s Director team and Leadership Team.
- Assist in implementing outreach plans related to system-wide issues with RCIL staff when concerns are identified by any of the RCIL Centers. (Amsterdam, Herkimer, or Utica).
- Complete and submit quarterly reports regarding SSAN activities in the format provided by the SSAN Coordinator entity New York Association on Independent Living (NYAIL) and provide a copy of such report to the Grants Management Director, VP of LIFE or COO.
- Establish no fewer than five (5) local partnership of coalition per contact year with organizations whose mission is consistent with Independent Living Philosophy in order to address issues of concern to people with disabilities.
- Provide a minimum of six (6) or written public testimonies, statements or letters each contract year in response to documented request from the state legislature, state agencies, statewide councils, or other statewide public bodies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Familiarity with/understanding of disability-related legislation and regulatory bodies, including but not limited to: ADA, IDEA, 504, ACCESS-VR, OPWDD, Social Security, etc.
- Must demonstrate commitment to disability rights and independent living philosophy.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication, public speaking, and the ability to work with a diverse population.
- Research mediation, negotiation, community networking, and flexibility.
- Must be well-organized, able to work independently and able to meet deadlines.
- Must have reliable transportation.
Education and Experience
- Associate degree with two-year s of experience working in Human Services or a related field is preferred.; or three-to-five years working with people with disabilities.
